got everything fixed today.  Star (Wife) was nice enough to donate her steering box from her XJ since the transmission is about to take a dump.  we got it all together and it's working great.  The bolts slid out like they were just put in yesterday and went it just as easy.  i also got around to closing up the flintstone hole in my floor and fiberglassing the seams.  Because of the sagging headliner it had to go so away it went.  Tomorrow we are going to put the truck bed liner to the inteior of the buggy.  Hopefully it will be a slow Fire Department day so the liner will dry properly.

Trish, dont loose any sleep about us staying in Brewer and the rest of the club continuing the ride.  It was for a good cause and it's not like we were in the middle of the woods. The kids were able to use the bathroom at Sid Harveys and it's not like we were lacking any places to get food if it were needed.

Good luck with the removal. Use alotta PB Blaster, maybe some heat too. Be careful with using heat if you've sprayed any penetrating lube on it as it'll flare up on ya.  I fought for awhile with mine then just got a Durango box. Straight up swap, easy peasy. $60 from a jy in Norridgewock (sp?)

All 3 of the power steering pump bolt were snapped off.  I'm not sure how this happened, but I dont plan on letting it happen again.  I almost have the pump off now and I plan to drill the old bolts out and replace them with hardened nuts and bolts.  I figure that if I replace the chinsy bolts with nuts AND bolts, at least if this happens again, I can fix it on the go and not have to worry about tow trucks and whatnot.

Steering pump or box? I could understand the box, but not the pump...

sorry, steering box.  I'm waiting for the hardware store to open so I can get a pair of vise grips. Hopefully I can get enough on them to back them out.  Drilling them out is not gonna happen.

SO .. as for the people that were able to make it out were ..

Rick and Nancy ..  (the Professor & MaryAnn)
Joe his lovely wife (??) and their 2 adorable kids .. (jlegere1)
Mike, Jess and the boys .. (Mike zj, smiley)
Tom .. (tj_tom)
Craig .. (cj)
Mathew and Dayna .. (youngblood)
myself and the 2 girls

(l don't think l missed anyone but please correct me if l have!!!)

so 7 Jeeps, it was a great ride .. we had the Sheriffs Dept and Ellsworth police stopping traffic at every light and intersection, we did have to stop twice on Rt 1 to let traffic by, but the Sheriffs dept actually stopped us, went to the end of the line then radiod up to tell us to go again .. and then raced up to the front of the line again

one of the classic cars had engine problems along the way, but made it there a little after us

everyone one was so friends .. be it Jeeps, cars or bikes

they had hot dogs and sodas till no one wanted any more

there was a live band, they were pretty good

they had the sign up for raffles that most of us did on line, then they had 2 more sign up for other raffles there

Dawn and l both won one of the raffle prizes .. we both won Whale Watchers Light House Tours!!

as for the collection plate passed around for the club members .. we collected $85 .. which was given to them as soon as we had it!!

as far as l can tell, fun was had by all

you would not believe how bad l felt that we had to go .. that is not something do .. we never leave anyone behind and l hated it, as did everyone else

l am so sorry there was nothing we could do .. please, as soon as you are up and running come out again with us

So...............How did the ride go?  We eded up calling Union Street Towing and they gave all of us a ride home. Anyways, I hope everyone had fun and I look foward to seeing alot of pictures.

I unfortunately have to withdraw. Something's up with my steering (ball joints I believe) and she's turning loosely and when I hit bumps the ZJ's all over the road...gotta get that fixed first. I'm posting more details on another forum topic.
If it's not broken, don't fix it or dick off with it. If it is broken, use duct tape. If that doesn't work...try duct tape again...

I sent an e mail asking about the buck a mile and about lunch.  Below is the response I got.

“Dawn - There is no fee to join the ride.  We may end up "passing the hat" at some point for the camp.
One week prior to the Drive we'll have a "telethon", and sell what we call Miles for Smiles.  Every mile will be a buck.  This is our way of raising money for Camp CaPella.
At Napa in Ellsworth we'll have a couple of grills going with hamburgers and hot dogs and cold soda.  Everything will be free
Fred”

Most charity runs I do are 20-30 dollars. I think that’s a cheap donation to this ride considering you get a free lunch for the family.   Not to mention this is a GREAT cause. Camp CaPella helps disabled kids get to experience camp; something that might not be able to do without Camp CaPella. If people don't want to call in to the "Telathon" I am more than happy to take donations day of the ride and make sure it gets to Camp Capella/95.7.

EDIT: Forgot you are also automatically registered for prizes and give always when you register. No buying raffle tickets. $30 is a heck of a deal.

Also I was thinking since we will be near Schoodic maybe we could get some wheeling in after lunch and a Ice cream/dinner  at Jordan’s Snack bar on the way home for formaly ZJMike.  ;D

You can pre register for Miles for Smiles at the link above. It was really easy to do. It did not ask for a donation, I am guesing you give a donation when you check in on June 23ed.

they are asking for a $1 a mile ... Brewer to Ellsworth is about 25+ miles

You can pre register for Miles for Smiles at the link above. It was really easy to do. It did not ask for a donation, I am guesing you give a donation when you check in on June 23ed.

I agree this would be a good charity to donate GTD funds to.  And it sounds like a fun time too.
If I have 10 ice cubes and you have 11 apples.  How many pancakes will fit on the roof?

I heard about this on the radio this morning and thought it would be a great family event for us to join in on.  This also might be a great charity to donate GTD funds too.

http://www.campcapella.org/new-65.htm

From Camp CaPella web sight - "WWMJ, Bangor's Classic music radio and the area Cumulus radio stations are the major sponsors of the "Classic Drive" for Camp CaPella KIds. The station will be taking pledges for "MILES for SMILES" and sending kids to camp. Classic cars, motorcycles, and just fancy transportation will be gathering on the Acme Rd in Brewer at 10 am on June 23rd to make the drive from Brewer to the NAPA store and parking arera in Ellsworth. There the live band RetroRockerz  will be performing, good food and lots of GREAT classic cars, trucks, and motorcycles will there for all to drool over!

Own a classic car, truck or motorcycle?? call WWMJ at 989-5631 or visit their web site at www.wwmj-fm.com and register now to be eligible for great prizes and to make the drive!

Join us in the FUN and----help send a kid to camp!"

From www.wwmj-fm.com
"Most importantly, make your donation to Camp CaPella as we sell "Miles for Smiles"!  Each mile is $1, buy as many miles as your can!  Listen on air for details which are coming soon!"
